What is a kilim?

A kilim is a flatwoven rug without a knotted pile. Its pattern is formed in the weave. Fiber content, construction, and finishing vary by piece, so check the individual product details rather than assuming every kilim is reversible or entirely wool.

Living rooms, dining spaces, and hallways

A kilim can introduce pattern without a deep pile. For dining rooms, check that pulled-back chair legs remain on the rug. In a hallway, measure the clear walking space and door clearance; our runner rugs offer narrower formats.

Exact dimensions matter

Use the original centimeter measurements to plan the fit. The feet and inch dimensions are rounded conversions. A rug pad suitable for your flooring can improve grip, but the kilim itself is not automatically slip-resistant.

Origin, dispatch, and care

Our kilim selection includes Afghan pieces dispatched from Germany and some Moroccan pieces dispatched from Morocco. Check the details for the rug you choose. Vacuum gently without a rotating brush, keep fringe clear of the vacuum, and blot spills promptly. Follow the care guidance for the individual rug.
