Rug Size & Care Guide

Start with the space you want the rug to occupy, then compare the actual dimensions of the piece. A rug can connect furniture, define a dining area, or give a narrow hallway its own rhythm.

Measure the furniture layout

  • Living room: measure the sofa, chairs, and coffee table as a group. Try placing the front furniture legs on the rug, or use a larger format to hold the whole arrangement.
  • Dining room: test the layout with chairs pulled back. About 24–28 inches (60–70 cm) beyond the table edge can be a starting point; your furniture determines the space actually needed.
  • Bedroom: measure the bed and the usable space beside it. Consider where you want a soft landing when you step out of bed.
  • Hallway: measure the clear width between furniture, leave room at entrances, and check every door that swings over the rug.

Mark the planned outline with painter's tape. Walk around it, move the chairs, and open the doors before choosing.

Feet, inches, and centimeters

Our rugs are measured in centimeters. Feet and inches on product pages are approximate conversions. Use the original centimeter dimensions when a close fit matters. Handmade and vintage rugs do not necessarily match common U.S. standard sizes.

Common U.S. reference sizeApproximate dimensions in centimeters
5 × 8 ft152.4 × 243.8 cm
6 × 9 ft182.9 × 274.3 cm
8 × 10 ft243.8 × 304.8 cm
9 × 12 ft274.3 × 365.8 cm
10 × 14 ft304.8 × 426.7 cm

These are size references, not a list of dimensions available for every rug. For example, a 200 × 300 cm rug is approximately 6 ft 7 in × 9 ft 10 in.

Ordering a custom size

Our custom Moroccan rugs use separate centimeter selectors for width and length. The current selection offers 10 cm increments and a choice of fringe. Check the chosen combination and total price before ordering. For a size outside the available grid, contact us to discuss what is possible.

Color and texture

Compare the rug with the flooring, upholstery, and wall color in daylight and evening light. Screen settings can change color appearance. Original photographs show the rug; images labeled as AI-generated room inspiration illustrate a possible setting.

Everyday care

Follow the care information for your specific rug. Vacuum gently without a rotating brush and keep fringe clear of the vacuum. Blot spills promptly with a clean absorbent cloth; do not rub or soak the area. Rotate the rug occasionally so wear is distributed more evenly.

Do not assume a rug is machine washable. A professional familiar with the rug's fibers, dyes, and construction should assess deep cleaning where necessary. A suitable rug pad can improve grip on a smooth floor; check its compatibility with your flooring.
